Possible Detroit Pistons trade to land an All-Star guard
With the NBA trade deadline less than a month away, we can expect to hear a lot of rumors involving the Detroit Pistons.
The Pistons fancy themselves buyers or are at least claiming to be, which I've compared to me walking into a luxury car dealership and declaring myself a buyer while the salesperson looks at my credit rating and rolls their eyes as they call for security.
Even though Detroit has been the worst team in the NBA over the last 15 years and tanked the last three, they still don't have much in the way of trade assets, though at this point, just about everyone not named Cade Cunningham should be available.
The Pistons have been connected to players in various reports, but it's hard to put together realistic trade packages to land anyone outside of a buy-low risk, a project or someone else's bad contract.
But that won't stop the Pistons from being mentioned every time there is a player on the market.
Detroit Pistons trade: Latest NBA trade rumors
According to Jake Fischer, the Pistons are one of six teams that have expressed interest in former All-Star guard Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks.
The other five teams are the Lakers, Knicks, 76ers, Heat and Nets, all teams with at least playoff aspirations that have considerably more to trade than the Pistons.
It's amazing that the Lakers, a team that has been in win-now mode since LeBron arrived, somehow have as many draft assets as the Pistons, but here we are.
To put it plainly, I am incredibly dubious that the Detroit Pistons have any chance of landing Dejounte Murray, but they could put together a trade that might at least get them a spot at the meeting.
