Recent history of the 5th pick should give Pistons fans hope

Trae Young may be one of the biggest pieces of optimism that the Pistons can have with the number five pick. Young, a three-time All-Star, a 2022 All-NBA team selection, and 2019 All-Rookie First team member, has solidified himself as one of the top guards in the league.
Known mostly for his shooting, Young is a massive threat on the offensive side of the ball with dangerous playmaking ability. He is one of the best pick-and-roll guards in the league, and has shown he has the ability to lead a team well, most notably when he led the Atlanta Hawks to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals.
Young's lack is most notably on the defensive end, with his small size making him a negative when matched up inside, and his perimeter defense is nothing that opens the eyes of fans or teams.
In such a star-studded draft class, Young was one of the biggest standouts and still continues to prove why even at the fifth pick, you can get a steal in the draft.
