The Detroit Pistons are going to be tied to nearly every name this offseason who offers at least some type of offensive boost and enough defensive versatility to not drive J.B. Bickerstaff insane.
We've heard every name from Trey Murphy III to Dejounte Murray, and even future hall of famers like Kawhi Leonard.
Still, the cost of any of the above names likely won't make the fanbase feel the best when it's all said and done, which in turn is why one of the most underrated targets that could make sense for Detroit is Phoenix Suns' enforcer Dillon Brooks.
And don't get me wrong, Brooks has probably rubbed every fan the wrong way at some point in his career. Still, what he brings to every team he's on is worth mentioning, and beyond that, he's a direct answer to one of the biggest needs for the Pistons.
Dillon Brooks would be a better addition than it sounds
Obviously, finding a second option for Cade Cunningham is the top priority this offseason, especially if the team hopes to avoid a nightmare scenario in which their star guard grows frustrated.
Beyond that, though, Detroit still needs to find additional offense elsewhere, whether that's off the bench or a fill-in starter, especially if Tobias Harris really is on his way out this offseason.
Brooks fits the bill and he likely wouldn't cost the Pistons much.
Brooke is off a career year with the Phoenix Suns, averaging 20.2 points on 43.5% from field goal range and 34.4% from three, and he's one of the biggest reasons why Phoenix had a chance to earn a spot in the playoffs at the end of the season.
Brooks isn't a star player by any means, but he's a legit two-way talent who can offer offensive upside and do the dirty work on the defensive end, and no matter if you like him or not, there's no denying that.
And while Detroit fans are probably yelling from the rooftops that Dillon Brooks is the last player they'd want on their team, it feels safe to say that those emotions would quickly fade if he landed in the Motor City.
Brooks is annoying to play against but easy to root for
Brooks isn't afraid to get in opponents' heads; in fact, the majority of the time, it seems like that's his top goal.
In turn, he often rubs opposing fans the wrong way, especially when he's engaging and directly rage-baiting.
There's no doubt that when things get chippy, and Brooks is on the opposing team, it can get annoying. The same can be said about Isaiah Stewart, though, and Detroit's fanbase loves Beef Stew.
It may take time to warm up to Brooks, but probably not as long as some fans would think.
To make things even better, Brooks wouldn't cost much at all; perhaps even Duncan Robinson's contract and draft compensation could get a deal done.
And with one year left on his contract, the Pistons would have an out if things don't unfold the way they'd hope.
