José Calderón

Despite playing with the Pistons in 2013 many people have already forgotten about José Calderón’s incredibly short and mostly uneventful stay in Detroit.

After eight seasons with the Toronto Raptors, Calderón found himself in a three team trade, which also involved the Pistons sending Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye to Memphis.

The acquisition of Calderón was mostly a move to free up cap space (that was unfortunately used on Josh Smith) and at the end of the season Calderón left in free agency to the Dallas Mavericks.

Calderón’s 28 games with the Pistons weren’t out of this world, but his shooting was quite impressive as he increased both his field goal percentage (47 to 53 per cent) and three point percentage (43 to 52 per cent), despite being on a worse team.

In fact, if he had a slightly better field goal percentage during his time at the Raptors he would have entered the illustrious 50/40/90 club as he averaged 49 per cent from the field, 46 per cent from three and 90 per cent from the free throw line across the entire season.

Calderón’s tenure in Detroit was a truly blink and you’ll miss it moment, however it did give us the hilarious moment of him walking into the wrong locker room when he returned to face the Raptors for the first time.
