Allen Iverson

Allen Iverson’s time in Detroit was a complete disaster.

Iverson was traded to the Pistons only a few days into the 2008-09 season, with the Pistons giving up Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb.

Trading a fan favourite and champion like Billups was a hugely controversial decision, and with how things turned out this move is often pointed to as one of the worst of Joe Dumars’ run as GM.

Iverson played 54 games for the Pistons, where he slowly lost playing time to Rodney Stuckey.

Head coach Michael Curry planned to start brining Iverson off the bench, something he didn’t take kindly to and was quoted as saying he’d rather retire than come off the bench.

Two days later on April 3 it was announced that Iverson would take no further part in the season due to a back injury, and by the start of next season he had signed with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Iverson’s time in Detroit coincides with the team’s slide from the Eastern Conference playoffs and is something most fans would like to forget.
