Here’s who the Detroit Pistons could target with the unofficial opening of the trade market
Another backup big
The Golden State Warriors have seen their dynasty end as they’ve become the cellar dwellers of the West with the early-season injury to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson‘s injury from the playoffs. Draymond Green has been in and out of the lineup, too.
So the dream of the Pistons swapping Drummond for D’Angelo Russell may as well be scrapped. While having Russell would be a solid building piece moving forward, since Drummond won’t add anything to the Warriors this season. Though if they could sign him to an extension, the tank would be on and Golden State could quickly re-tool for next season.
However, Willie Cauley-Stein would provide a solid backup center option. He signed a two-year, $4.5 million deal this summer with the Warriors.
Cauley-Stein has improved on the defensive end, averaging a career-best 2.9 blocks and 2.2 steals per 100 possessions. There isn’t a lot of offensive upside but he’d be a solid pick-and-roll option for the second unit to operate with and, again, he could play the Drummond role with the second unit.
