Detroit Pistons: Jahlil Okafor could be traded before the deadline

Jahlil Okafor

Okafor has the type of post-driven back-to-the-basket game that would have thrived in the 1990’s. He is one of the best pure post players in a league that no longer values the skill.

That being said, Okafor has proven that he can get buckets off the bench, and if there is a team out there looking for bench scoring, he’s not a bad option, especially considering he only makes $1.8 million this season and $2.1 million next.

The Pistons should be watching for any teams who have an injury to their primary backup center, as Okafor would be great in that role for a lot of teams, especially ones that need scoring.

It might be smart for the Detroit Pistons to start getting Okafor more minutes so he can show what he can do.

The question is what could the Pistons expect in return, and the answer is not much. No one is going to give up a draft pick (maybe a second-rounder) for Okafor, so they’d probably have to settle for a two-way player or a young prospect.

That’s fine, as those are exactly the types of players the Pistons should be adding. They could use Okafor to take a chance on an unknown.
