Detroit Pistons: Sekou Doumbouya is building some positive momentum

Don’t look now, but it appears Sekou Doumbouya has clawed his way out of the doghouse and is starting to get some regular minutes.

Over his last ten games he has played an average of 20 minutes per game, and he has shown some flashes of nice on-the-ball defense as well as increasing confidence in his shot.

Hayes and Doumbouya have connected a few times (not making the obvious joke) and Doumbouya is coming off one of his better performances of the season against Dallas, where he scored 14 points in 29 minutes on 50 percent shooting from the field.

Doumbouya has some glaring flaws in his game, possibly the biggest being that he does not look as athletic as he did last season and often drifts to the corner on offense which negates a lot of what he does well.

His longterm future as a prospect is still fairly murky, but it is good that he is at least getting some run late in the season to try and build his confidence heading into the offseason.

If you think about it, Doumbouya hasn’t had a ton of time to develop as he was robbed of an offseason and Summer League and didn’t get a chance to play in the G-league this season.

He’s still only 20-years-old, so I am excited to see what he can do after another full offseason of work.
