Detroit Pistons: The Pistons’ defense

Dwane Casey mentioned that a goal for next season is to have a top-ten defense and I definitely think the Pistons can get there.

They have a team full of athletic, long and willing defenders who can guard more than one spot, so this team is set up to have a top defense.

And they are showing it.

Since Blake Griffin was launched to Brooklyn, the Pistons defense has continued to improve and they have been a top-12 defense in the NBA in that stretch.

After holding the Grizzlies under 100 points last night, the Pistons are allowing just 107.9 points per game over their last ten, which would be good for 5th in the NBA if stretched out over a whole season.

This is a team that has been constructed around defense and Troy Weaver clearly has a vision to build a versatile defensive team and worry about the offense later.

This is a smart move, as all of the top teams in the NBA also have top defenses.

With internal improvements from the rookies, the addition of Hamidou Diallo and hopefully another top-five pick, the Detroit Pistons could and should have one of the better defenses in the NBA next season.
