Detroit Pistons: Free agents on the Phoenix Suns

If the Detroit Pistons were unable to come to an agreement with Frank Jackson or Dennis Smith Jr., then they might be in the market for a backup point guard.

If so, Cameron Payne might be a nice option. He played 18 minutes per game for the Suns on a low-cost contract and is not likely to get a huge raise, so he could be another one of Weaver’s value signings.

Payne has shot 44 percent from 3-point range this season, an attribute the Pistons definitely need. They will probably try to re-sign Jackson first, as he is younger and probably a little cheaper, but if they don’t make a deal, Payne would  be a nice option.

NBA Free Agents: Georges Niang of the Utah Jazz

The Pistons aren’t likely to be in the Mike Conley or Ersan Ilyasova markets but the Jazz have another free agent who might draw some interest.

Georges Niang is shooting over 40 percent from 3-point range on 4.1 attempts per game, which the Pistons could use off their bench.

He can also back up both forward spots, so would give the Pistons some flexibility, and he’s still only 27-years-old, so the Pistons would be getting the end of his prime years and possibly his best seasons as a professional.

None of these guys are going to move the needle but if the Detroit Pistons add impact talent in the NBA Draft, they will need low-cost veteran free agents to fill out their bench.
