Detroit Pistons: Grab a low-cost NBA free agent who fits the culture they are trying to build

Troy Weaver and the Detroit Pistons are trying to build a particular type of culture in Detroit. They want guys who are long and athletic and can defend multiple positions, but they are also looking for high-character guys who work hard on and off the court.

Hamidou Diallo has shown himself to be one of those high character guys, but the Pistons could also use a veteran glue-guy for the bench who sets an example through his work ethic and has the ear of the younger guys.

This doesn’t have to be a guy who plays a lot (or at all), so we are not talking about one of the top guys here. If you think of the role Udonis Haslem has played for the Miami Heat over the years, that’s the kind of guy I am talking about.

Haslem has barely stepped on the court but he provides valuable leadership and is like having another coach on the bench.

The Detroit Pistons would love to add an end-of-the-bench guy who fits this mold, though it won’t be easy with limited roster space.

I don’t expect a huge amount of change to the Pistons’ roster outside of the obvious, and that is ok, as their free agent needs are ones that shouldn’t break the bank.
