If it is close, does Detroit GM Troy Weaver pull the trigger on a trade?

After seeing all three prospects (four if they get Evan Mobley in for a workout), Weaver and the other personnel people with the Detroit Pistons will have a final sitdown to go over all that they have seen, and talked about, for the past couple of months.

What if, they decide, that while Cunningham is still rated No. 1, that the gap between him and Suggs, Mobley or Green is small enough that, if offered a really big package, Weaver should grab it and trade down.

With Houston desperate to get Cunningham, this trade might work:

If, following the workouts, and the Pistons’ evaluation of the top players, boils down to that they believe there is not that much difference among the top three (or four), a package of what should be high draft picks, plus Detroit getting the first-rounder lost in the Christian Wood trade returned, might be enough to trade down (one spot).

Next. NBA draft history shows surprisingly little needed to get No. 1, but Pistons would want more. dark

Everything might have been settled and considered a done deal on June 22, when the Pistons got the No.1 pick in the draft: Detroit was going to get Cade Cunningham. Done deal. That that might have been true even for Pistons coaches and executives.

But, after seeing all the top dogs in person, up close, minds can be changed. Detroit fans want Cunningham because they believe he is, by far, the best player in the draft. But is he? We will find out on July 29 if the Pistons believe so.
