Detroit Pistons: #3 – Franchise culture

This is one that will hit home for most Pistons’ lifers.

As we all know, the Pistons have one of the more rich histories in all of the NBA that can be defined by two distinct eras: the “Bad Boys” and “Goin’ to Work”.

The Pistons are most definitely entering into a new era, hopefully one that brings as much success at the previous ones.

Although this current iteration has yet to earn their own specific name, the connections between the past and present have been front and center recently.

Ben Wallace brought the franchise even more success as he represented the team on the night the Pistons won the lottery. Cade Cunningham returned the favor as he showed up in-person to watch Big Ben get inducted in the Hall of Fame. Isaiah Stewart has said it has been great having Big Ben around the franchise.

Images of Chauncey Billups with Cunningham appeared online this year as well and we learned that the two even share a birthday.

Taking it even back further, Isiah Thomas has only had good things to say about this young Pistons team and it seems like every single broadcast we hear mention of Grant Hill‘s rookie season.

The moments keep adding up.

This type of culture is something you really only see in collegiate sports. The Pistons greats from generations past bridge the gap and help keep the same attitude alive in the building.

Even fans in Detroit have had the privilege of hearing the same voice, George Blaha, on broadcasts since 1976.

There is something to be said about a continuous thread through a franchise’s history and it looks like the Detroit Pistons have begun to stich things back together.
