Detroit Pistons free agency needs: Shooters

The Pistons were abysmal last year when it came to 3-point shooting. Not only were they one of the worst teams in the league in percentage, but they didn’t shoot enough of them for a team in the modern NBA.

This led to Cade Cunningham not having enough space to do his thing in the paint and mid-range and undoubtedly contributed to his high turnover rate and his pedestrian assist numbers.

Even though the Pistons have added a 40 percent 3-point shooter in Alec Burks, their lineup still lacks the kinds of shooters that are going to scare defenses away from double teaming Cade Cunningham.

Jaden Ivey will likely take some time to get there, as he is far more of a slasher and creator than a spot-up shooter from long range, though he did improve dramatically from there last season.

And when you consider a starting lineup that could have both Isaiah Stewart and Marvin Bagley III in it, the Pistons could be far worse next season than they were in this one, which is saying a lot.

They can expect some internal improvement from Cunningham, as well as guys like Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart, but that will not likely be enough to get them where they need to be.

There are some mid-priced shooters who will be available on the market and the Pistons need to grab one, as they can’t go into this season with a roster that looks like it was built in the 1990’s.

This player does not have to be a guard, and they can hopefully fill this need and the next one with a single player.
