Detroit Pistons: Is Kevin Durant now on the market?

Not a lot of teams were interested in trading for Kyrie Irving, but what about Kevin Durant?

Teams around the league are waiting for the fallout from the Irving trade and the effect it will have on Durant’s time in Brooklyn. Durant has demanded trades in the past, so we know he won’t be shy to voice his opinion about his own future.

On one hand, getting rid of Kyrie might make him happy and more motivated. Maybe he’ll want to show that he can lead a team to a title without a second superstar. It’s also possible that this new incarnation of the Brooklyn Nets will actually be better. Of course, the Nets now have extra assets to make another trade, and could be looking for more depth and players to help replace Irving’s offense.

On the other hand, Durant is 34-years-old and may not want to waste time on a team that he doesn’t think can win a title, which many think is now the case in Brooklyn.

If there are rumors that Durant wants out, then a lot of these contenders are going to sit on their trade assets and wait for that moment, which could slow down not just the market for Bojan Bogdanovic, but all trades, as Durant could make a lot of teams the favorite to win it all this season or next.

Not only will NBA teams be closely monitoring the Luka Doncic situation in Dallas (what if this blows up in their faces, will Luka want out? Why didn’t they just re-sign Jalen Brunson and keep their assets?) but also the Durant situation in Brooklyn, which could make them less inclined to do anything at this trade deadline.

Future aside, the Irving trade will definitely have an effect on the present of the rest of the Western Conference.
