Bad contracts the Pistons could take on for a 1st-round pick

Gordon Hayward

The former All-Star will be in the last year of his 4 year/$120 million contract next year. Hayward will make $31,500,000 dollars next season and could be a player the Charlotte Hornets want to move to acquire cap space to build around LaMelo Ball. The Hornets own their first-round picks in 2024 and 2025, plus a plethora of young players that could interest the Pistons. Gordon Hayward would fill a position of need; a veteran wing could provide playmaking and shooting. The Pistons could maybe look to trade Hayward at the deadline or maybe extend him if things work out in Detroit.

Kyle Lowry or Duncan Robinson

The Miami Heat are in win now mode with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, so looking to move off big contracts like Kyle Lowry and Duncan Robinson would be big for them. Kyle Lowry will be in the final year of his contract next season and will be paid around $30 million dollars. Duncan Robinson has fallen out the Heat rotation for the most part and will be under contact until 2026. The Heat do have the 18th overall pick in the draft this year, but then would not have a an available first round pick to trade until the late 2020s. If Miami wants to make an all-in move this offseason, then maybe the Pistons could be waiting in the wings to take on a contract that the Heat would want to get off their books.
