The Detroit Pistons have finally moved on from head coach Monty Williams after a disastrous first season. Many fans are rejoicing at the decision, and it raises the question on whether or not the former coach of the year was the worst in franchise history. This marks a good time to look back and see who the five worst Pistons coaches were and see where Monty ranks.

#5: Dwane Casey (2018-23)
As Stan Van Gundy's successor in 2018, Dwane Casey was given a young team with very little experience playing winning basketball. With high expectations after winning the coach of the year award just months before, it was assumed that Casey was going to turn this young team into a force for years to come. However, it turned out to be quite the opposite.
In total, Casey finished with a 121-263 (.315) record in his five seasons as head coach, with only one playoff appearance in 2019 when the team finished with their best record during his tenure at 41-41. It's hard to judge whether the problem fell more on Casey or the talent that he was given, as he had to steer a young team with very few stars in a winning direction. Nonetheless, the Pistons fell deeper into the pit of irrelevancy during Casey's time as head coach, placing him at fifth on this list.
