Detroit Pistons: Possible NBA free agents, center Willy Hernangomez

Hernangomez got some extended run this season for the Pelicans and made the most of it, notching 7.8 points and 7.1 rebounds in 18 minutes per game off the bench.

What I like about Hernangomez is that he will come in and compete for spot but is comfortable in his role as a backup.

If the Pelicans could move on from Jahlil Okafor, Hernangomez would be an upgrade, as he is better than advertised on offense and isn’t a complete pushover on defense like Okafor.

Center is not a position of need for the Detroit Pistons, but could become one if they were to trade Mason Plumlee at some point.

I don’t see that happening this season, but Hernangomez would still be a nice option as a third center who can come in and do a little bit of everything well. He’s another guy who could do more in an extended role and if the Pistons were to move on from one of their centers, he’d be a choice to consider.

Other possibilities: Nerlens Noel (probably too expensive), Robin Lopez
